beacen.

Recording field answer 004

Route recording vs workout recording

The short answer

Recording a route in beacen creates a line you can name, trim, save and navigate later. It does not start a fitness workout or create the activity record expected by Apple Fitness, Strava or another training service. If you want both records, start your chosen workout app separately and use beacen for navigation or route recording.

First distinction

The records answer different questions.

Route recordingWhere did the line go?

Creates route geometry that can be trimmed, named, saved and followed later.

Workout recordingWhat activity took place?

Creates the fitness record managed by the workout service you selected.

Both recordsStart both separately

Use beacen for the route and your chosen workout app for the fitness session.

Neither record substitutes for the other. A saved route can be useful without a workout, and a completed workout does not automatically become a route in beacen.

Inside beacen

Route recording produces a reusable line.

  1. Acquire

Wait for a useful GPS position.

Allow the location reading to settle before recording begins.

  2. Record

Capture the route as you move.

The live view reports recorded distance and time. Pause when the movement should not form part of the line.

  3. Finish

    Review the result.

Check the map, recorded distance, active time, elevation gain and start and finish times.

  4. Prepare

    Name, trim and save.

Remove unwanted material at the start or end, then save the route to My Routes.

Fitness record

The workout belongs to the service that records it.

Start the activity in Apple Workout, a compatible Android fitness app or another service you trust. That service controls its own permissions, measurements, background behaviour, saving and onward sharing.

beacen does not promise heart-rate data, calorie estimates, Health data export or third-party fitness synchronisation. Check the workout app's own record after the session.

One outing, two sessions

Start, manage and finish each record on its own terms.

  • Before setting offStart the beacen route recording and the separate workout you want to keep.
  • During a pauseDecide whether the pause belongs in each record. The controls are independent.
  • At the finishFinish and review both sessions. Saving one does not confirm that the other has been saved.
  • AfterwardsTrim and name the beacen route without assuming the fitness record will change with it.

Data and privacy

A recorded route contains location information.

A route can contain coordinates, elevations and timestamps. Your saved routes remain local by default unless you choose a sharing or optional sync action. A fitness provider applies its own privacy terms to the workout it records.

Review how beacen handles your routes before sharing a recorded line.

What this answer is based on.

Third-party workout features, permissions and data handling can change independently of beacen.
